Frequently Asked Questions for Newcomers

Hopefully these will cover any queries you may have as a newcomer. However please don't hesitate to contact Fliss Hall if you would like to discuss anything further.

What can I do to help settle my child?

Bring your child in prior to starting to introduce him/her to us. Explain and reassure if child is apprehensive.

How does my child get to OSCAR from class?

We will discuss your options re. picking up from class. Often children prefer to be picked up by siblings or come over with a teacher or friend, but we are happy to pick up children from class until they are settled.

What happens at OSCAR?

Upon arrival children are greeted by a staff member who helps new entrants with their bags etc. This is followed by afternoon tea, in which children are marked off the roll. The children are then given the options of indoor or outdoor activities to participate in however and whenever they choose. Toast is available after 3:30pm for a brief time for extra energy. If we feel a child is tired we encourage them to spend time inside playing board games, Lego, crafts etc. TV use is kept to minimum, but can be a good wind down activity. Every child is supervised at all times.

Will my child have a key person they can go to?

The manager, Fliss Hall.
We may feel it necessary to assign an assistant supervisor to care for your child until they feel settled.

How do i sign out?

The sign out roll is beside the phone in the Demo Room. Only persons specified on the enrolment form can pick up your child. Please advise us of any changes to this.

Do I need to provide food?

No. We provide afternoon tea consisting of sweet and savory biscuits, fruit and juice on arrival. At 3:30pm children are supervised making toast, max 2 pieces per child with a variety of spreads.

Who are the supervisors?

Fliss Hall is the manager.
Alana Smith and Nicola Ritchie are the senior supervisors.
We also have upto 9 rostered assistant supervisors.

Do I need to pay at school holidays?

Payment is made through the school holidays, and you will be advised when to terminate payments for the year. Holiday programme payments are separate.

Do I need to have a set time to pick up my child?

No. But having said this, young children do get tired and some become anxious if they are regularly one of the last ones to get picked up. All children MUST be picked up by 5:45pm. NB late fees apply after this time.

How much notice do i need to give if my child isn't attending?

A message left at anytime - day or night prior to the session is fine. But please remember to call in BEFORE the session.

What is the best way to communicate with Fliss?

If you have something important to discuss, it may pay to call first and arrange a good time. 3:00-3:15pm will NOT be the best time, preferably a note or phone call prior the session or between 3:15 to 6:00pm is advisable. We would appreciate being informed of any change to circumstances, activities etc. that may effect your child's time with us.
