Te Awa Times – our Student Newspaper
We are excited today to release the first issue of our 2025 'Te Awa Times’ – our student newspaper. This project, which has been expertly facilitated and guided by Jim and Liz Tully, has the aim of extending our Year 7 and 8 students by fostering accurate, clear and concise writing through the medium of news stories. This issue is simply great – and the hard work put in by the team has really paid off. Every family will receive a paper copy of it today. It can also be found on our school website: Happy reading!

Mid Year Reports
A reminder that your child(ren) will receive their mid-year report this Friday, which will be carried home in their school bag. The academic progress of our ākonga and the academic strength of our learning programmes is a key concern of our school. In the report envelope you will find:
- The report
Indicating progress against end of year-level curriculum expectations in Reading, Writing and Mathematics. Also how well they are doing in relation to our school values, the key competencies, Inquiry learning (Social Studies, Science, Technology and Health), the Arts and Physical Education. - A self-assessment (Year 3 – 8)
This is themed ‘I am a KWNS student’, and will include a self-assessed judgement of their strengths, work on’s and things that they are proud of that they have achieved or learned. - An information sheet
A double-sided A5 information sheet, that will hopefully explain how it all works.
The reports work in partnership with our next round of learning conferences, which are in Week 2 of Term 3.
Board of Trustee elections - 2025
You will have hopefully seen information sent out last week via HERO regarding this year's Board of Trustee's elections. These occur every three years. I strongly encourage you to read it, if you have not done so already, and consider standing for the BOT. It is highly preferential to have an election.
Magic Matariki
It was a lovely school community Matariki celebration last Thursday evening. All of the soup that was prepared by our students and staff was eaten (and very much enjoyed), and I thought that the singing in our school hall was great. As I said on the evening, we wanted the night to be about community connectedness, rather than school 'performance'. I think that this was achieved - and it was a really wonderful evening.

Outdoor tables - Thanks Karori Auto Services!!
A very special thank you to Gill from Repcon Engineering Karori, and Craig and the team at Karori Auto Services, who kindly helped sponsor the construction and making of three outdoor tables for the technology block area. Students from seven client school have been enjoying the new outdoor furniture, as well as KWNS students, who want a sunny quiet spot away from the hustle and bustle of the general playground. Thanks again!!
