Welcome back!
Our partnership with you We are committed to working with you in the aim of maximising your child(ren)'s progress in their learning. This means operating an open door policy, where we welcome and encourage you to speak with your child(ren)'s teacher about how they are getting on. Please feel free to get in touch with us.
New Staff Members
We are delighted to welcome Jenny, Georgia and Jenna to our teaching team this year. Jenny is teaching Year 5/6 in Ako 18, Georgia is teaching Year 0/1 in Ako 13 and Jenna is teaching Year 3/4 in Ako 15. They are fantastic additions to our kura and we look forward to working with them Our professional focus for 2025 This year, our staff will be engaged in professional development initiatives aimed at improving outcomes for our ākonga. We will be particularly concerned with embedding strong practices in our approach to Writing, and with implementing the new structured Mathematics curriculum across the school. The school has made very positive progress in both areas, and we have a strong footing, which is not common to all schools.
Contact Details: If you have moved over the school break, changed work places or phone numbers, or your emergency contacts have changed, please ring the office (476-6165) or email Tina or Nikki: office@kwns.school.nz with your updated details. It is essential these are up to date in case we need to contact you urgently.
Team building and creating 'loved' classroom environments in full effect this week
HERO App A gentle reminder that the HERO app is our school's main form of communication. On it you will find lots of useful information. This can be downloaded from the App store on your phone. We ask that you please do this - instructions are included in this newsletter.
Cycle lanes, parking and turning on South Karori Road. We are actively monitoring the impact that the new cycle lanes are having on parking availability at drop off and pick up times. If you wish to discuss this, please feel free to contact me (principal@kwns.school.nz).
We also ask that you refrain from turning your vehicle using the driveways on South Karori Road, and instead use the turning circle that is in place there. Thank you for your understanding as we play our part in being a good neighbour to those around us.
As always, if you have questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out.
Our next meeting is this Thursday (13 Feb) at 6:30pm in the staffroom.
New members are always welcome!
Leadership Programme 2025 - Year 7 & 8 students
We're excited to introduce our Year 7 & 8 Leadership Programme at Te Kura o Waipahihi! This initiative is all about nurturing essential leadership skills, fostering a sense of responsibility, and empowering our ākonga to become positive influencers within our community.
Our students will be recognised for their contributions across five key areas: Raraunga | Citizenship, Toi | Arts & Culture, Hākinakina | Sports, Mātauranga | Academic, and Mātāpono | Values. Throughout the year, each ākonga will track their achievements on their individual Leadership CV - a printed document to record their experiences.
As a student reaches certain milestones in each area, they'll earn a wristband and work towards the next tier of recognition, an Excellence Award. These contributions will play a crucial role in determining trophy winners at the end of the year for our Year 8 tamariki.

Dear Parents and Caregivers,
As you may be aware, this year we moved to HERO, a New Zealand owned and operated Student Management System. With Hero, you can:
read school notices sent to the class or groups your child is part of
see what learning has occurred in class
respond to school notices such as surveys and trip permission requests
view a school calendar of events and view school term dates
notify the school if your child is absent or late
navigate to the school website and Facebook page
select how you wish to receive notifications
Hero has a number of other features that we plan to introduce in the future. We want to move as quickly as we can to Hero so we aren’t duplicating our communications. However, we understand that it may take some time for all families to get set up. Because of this, we will continue to email you school notifications through to end of Term 1. After this time, all school communication will move to Hero.
How to access Hero
To download the app: scan the QR code (top right) or search ‘Hero by linc-ed’ in the app store.
