Year 7 and 8 Camp The Te Whānau Kauri camp at Kaitoke last week was a great success. Camp is rightly a highlight of children's time at primary school, and this camp was no exception. The togetherness, courage, leadership and manaaikitanga that our students consistently showed was awesome - and we as a school are very proud of them. A massive and very sincere thank you to the wonderful parent helpers who joined the camp, and our amazing staff - led expertly by Marcus. Ka mau te wihi!!

PMP Programme for Nīkau We are excited to have started PMP in Te Whānau Nīkau this term. PMP (Perceptual Motor Programme) is a carefully designed physical programme that helps children to develop the physical foundations they need to get the most out of their learning and play. Sessions are structured around six areas: the senses, balance, intuition, power, coordination and control. Language development underpins each activity too. Children start the week with a 'floor session' where they learn the movements for the week, and then use those specific moves in the 'equipment sessions' to target key areas of sensory and motor development. A group of children have loved the experience so far, and we are looking forward to rolling out PMP across Nīkau next term.
Learning conferences next week - Week 9 (Wednesday 2nd and Thursday 3rd April) A reminder that the booking portal, via the HERO app, is now open for learning conferences in Week 9. If you are having trouble with the app, please feel free to contact the school office.

Netball Winners :) The Karori West Keas netball team won Division 7 of the Kelly Sports Summer Series. They beat the Karori Summer Shooter 12 - 4 in the final. They only lost one game all summer, and showed great term work and resilience.
Message from the School Board This year is the triennial election for the School Board (which will be held in Term 3). If you have an interest in joining the School Board, please feel free to contact any of the Board members for a chat about what it entails. You can also email Jessica Ranger, our BOT Chair, with any questions (chair@kwns.school.nz).
As always, if you have questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out.
We offer a few different social sports after school at the Karori Recreation Centre each term. Look out for newsletters and notices on HERO for registration information.
In Term 2 there will be:
3 x 3 Basketball for year 3 and 4
Basketball (Miniball) for year 5 and 6
Basketball for year 7 and 8
Badminton (new this year) for year 5-8
If your child has played basketball this term, could you please still complete the form for Term 2.
Each sport is designed to be social and for players of all abilities. Teams are made up at random, although we try to include some fellow classmates where possible. There will be an opportunity in week 10 for the students in the team to get together so they can all meet prior to the term starting.
We are really excited as this year we are taking part in the tough guy/tough gal competition on Thursday 22 May at Wainuiomata.
If you would like your child to participate, please complete the permission slip by Wednesday 9 April 2025 at 3pm.
Parent Help and Managers
We rely on our wonderful community to support students engaging in sport activities during school time and outside of school hours. We are currently looking for coaches/managers/volunteers for the following days and teams:
Western Zone Football (year 5-8) - Tuesday 1 April
If you are able to volunteer your time or have any sports related questions, then please email Danielle at danielle.doyle@kwns.school.nz for more information.
Māehe Manawa Ora - Movin' March
There are only a few days left of Māehe Manawa Ora - Movin' March, a fantastic initiative organised by Greater Wellington Regional Council. The main purpose is to encourage students to get moving by walking or scootering to and from school. Teachers will be handing out 'passport cards' that will be signed when your child walks, bikes or scooters to or from school. There are all sorts of prizes to be won, so please help your child participate. If the journey to school is too far, please consider encouraging them to walk part of the way.

Dear Parents and Caregivers,
As you may be aware, this year we moved to HERO, a New Zealand owned and operated Student Management System. With Hero, you can:
read school notices sent to the class or groups your child is part of
see what learning has occurred in class
respond to school notices such as surveys and trip permission requests
view a school calendar of events and view school term dates
notify the school if your child is absent or late
navigate to the school website and Facebook page
select how you wish to receive notifications
Hero has a number of other features that we plan to introduce in the future. We want to move as quickly as we can to Hero so we aren’t duplicating our communications. However, we understand that it may take some time for all families to get set up. Because of this, we will continue to email you school notifications through to end of Term 1. After this time, all school communication will move to Hero.
How to access Hero
To download the app: scan the QR code (above) or search ‘Hero by linc-ed’ in the app store.
