Our tough guys and gals! Last Thursday we had a group of 63 ākonga travel to Wainuiomata to participate in the Tough Guy and Gal Challenge. It was an excellent day from all accounts, and we are very grateful to the number of parents who were available to help out on the day. I am sure you will agree, an excellent thing for our students to be involved in! A big thanks to Danielle for doing the organising!
An Pham - NZSO Performer A huge congratulations to An, who has been selected as concerto soloist to perform with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra in the Emerging Artist concert this September. The NZSO Emerging Artist program is to embrace and celebrate the next generation of performers, with the brightest school-aged young musicians being selected to perform as soloists or side-by-side instrumentalists with the NZSO.
At 10 years old, An is the youngest ever soloist to be selected! A wonderful achievement.
Health Curriculum Consultation We have shared the link to our biennial Health Curriculum Consultation questionnaire, via HERO. We ask that you please take a couple of minutes to complete it. The information that we collect will be seriously considered and used to inform our school curriculum statement. The survey is anonymous, and will close on Friday 13 June.

Budget decisions
Like many, I was watching last weeks budget announcement with interest. I am pleased to see that the message around greater resourcing for learning support has got through the government. It is about time. It is now my hope that this capital injection finds its way into classrooms, rather than getting tied up in administration. I am broadly supportive of the move to reprioritise money that was set aside for the Kāhui Ako networks to this cause - knowing that tax revenue is not a bottomless pit. In saying this, the Kāhui Ako network we belong to (with Wellington Boys and Girls, Karori Normal, Wadestown, Northland etc) has achieved a lot over the past years, and I am very hopeful that this strong connection remains.
School closure reminder: Friday 30th May A reminder that school will be closed to students this Friday 30th May, as our staff undertake professional learning associated with the new Mathematics curriculum. This is the second of two days that have been granted by the Minister of Education.
As always, if you have anything you wish to discuss, please feel free to reach out:
Tēnā koutou katoa to all our parents and caregivers,
Our Kāhui Ako is delighted to host renowned therapist Jo Robertson's expertise for an evening on Parenting in the Digital Era: how to create a safe online experience for your child, no matter their age. Jo is a therapist and researcher with over 17 years of experience. She has spent the last seven years researching online content and advocating for online safety for children and teenagers.
We will all be walking away with a greater understanding of:
Master the Art of Age-Appropriate Communication: Never again stumble for the right words, or fear saying the wrong thing to your children.
Keeping kids safe from sexual harm - both online and offline
Build Unbreakable Bonds: Expert guidance helps you establish deep trust and safety with your children in the space of sexual well-being.
Team Up with Your Partner: Bring your partner onboard and align your parenting strategies for a harmonious and united front.
The presentation will be held in the Wellington College Alan Gibbs Centre on Wednesday 18th June, from 7pm to 9.00pm. Tea coffee and light snacks will be available from 6.30pm. Please note this talk is for adults only and it is not suitable for children or teens to attend. We hope you can join us for this important session which promises to shed light on problems many of our parents and young people are encountering.
