School Picnic It was a fun evening yesterday at school. Thank you to everyone who came along and connected with us and your community, and for being flexible with the night change (it wouldn't have been much fun in last week's rain). The kaupapa about the evening is all about us as a community coming together, in the hope of you developing a greater sense of belonging at our kura. We had intended on sharing some messages, but had some issues with our PA system.
Big shout out to the amazing Friends of the School - absolute legends! Especially to Rebecca who once again ran the BBQ. We do truly appreciate your efforts.
Karori Waterside Football with KWNS We are delighted today to have every class in our school working with Karori Waterside FC over at the turf at Karori Park. It is great to connect with our local club - and for our ākonga and staff to be involved in excellent Physical Education! Even better for it to be in such lovely, sunny weather.
Western Zone Cricket Karori West had a fantastic day at Western Zones Cricket, playing five rounds of non-stop cricket against some of our neighbouring schools. We entered two teams representing our Year 5/6 and Year 7/8 students, and the sunshine made for perfect cricket conditions. It was wonderful to see the children having so much fun, trying their hardest, and showing excellent sportsmanship by cheering on others’ successes as well as their own.
Kapa Haka - new KWK approach This year we have welcomed Todd and Ihipera Parata into our school, who are teaching and leading KWK (performance Kapa Haka) this year. They bring a massive amount of experience with them, and in their first session last week had our ākonga sounding awesome. We will continue syndicate Kapa Haka being led by the truly awesome Whaea Lalita.
Our students doing great things - Lucy M
Congratulations to Lucy M who participated in the Oceans 26- Papamoa Beach Surf Life Saving Competition. Over 700 kids competed at the biggest Surf Lifesaving junior event in the country. As always, please feel free to get in touch should you need.
2026 Registrations are open for the 2026 Autumn/Winter Netball Season.
Registrations are open for all year 1 to 8 students who are keen to play Netball this season. To join a team, please register here by 5pm Tuesday 3 March 2026.
Season dates (Terms 1 and 2):
Round 1: Saturday 2 May – Saturday 4 July 2026
Years 7 and 8 (Div 1-3) will have two rounds of grading on 2 and 9 May where they will play 3-4 games over the day to place teams in the right grade.
Years 5 and 6 will play 7 a-side from 2026. They will start their season on Saturday 2 May 2026.
Years 3 and 4 will start from Saturday 16 May 2026.
Round 2: Saturday 25 July – Saturday 29 August 2026 (Years 3-8)
Year 1 &2 – Saturdays 8 and 15 August 2026. Years 1 and 2 play a fun festival across two Saturdays in August to learn about the game.
Fees Fees only apply to players in Year 3-8. The cost is $70 per player (please pay via bank transfer). Years 1 and 2 are free. We do not want cost to be an obstacle to a child playing netball. If you are unable to cover the registration cost but your child would like to play, please email kwnsnetball@gmail.com confidentially to see what support might be available. Alternatively, if you would like to sponsor another child to play, please get in touch! Account details KWNS 12-3223-0091361-00 (ASB). Please use your child's name and the word 'netball' as the detail/reference.
Parent Coaches and Managers KWNS cannot have teams in this competition without the support of parents as Coaches/Managers during the season. Each team must provide their own Coach/Manager. If you are interested in coaching or managing a team, please email kwnsnetball@gmail.com. There will be a free coaching course run by Wellington West to support you to build your coaching skills.
Senior Trials (Years 7 and 8) Given the depth of senior Netball talent, and that Years 7 and 8 play across three Netball divisions, trials will be held to select the teams and place them in the right division. The trials will be held at the school turf on Sunday 8 March, 1:30pm-3:30pm. There will also be a practice session at 10:30am, Saturday 7 March for students to practice prior to the trials. On the registration form, please indicate your student’s favourite netball positions to help with organising the trials. If a student doesn’t want to trial, then please let us know at kwnsnetball@gmail.com - we can still place them in a team.
Changes to the format of Year 5 and 6 netball From this year, years 5 and 6 will now play seven-a-side Netball, instead of six-a-side. This is so kids are better prepared for the switch to senior Netball and learn those positions better. This means kids will play the positions and rules of GS, GA etc instead of the six-a-side positions of A, C, D.
Year 7/8 Player Development Programme This programme is run by Wellington West Netball for any interested Year 7/8 players and is held over four weekends. Please indicate when you register for the season if you are interested in attending For more information about this programme, please visit: Wellington West Netball - Year 7&8 Development (sporty.co.nz).
Thanks, Karori West Netball Committee
